In Diablo 4, players reach a city, but getting inside is not easy. First, one must complete a ritual, and the decision made here will not affect further playthrough in any way.
This choice is meaningless, yet it still holds some significance. Harrison Pink, who previously worked at Telltale, attempted to explain the concept. He dedicated a series of posts on social media to this “meaningless” choice.
Thanks to this situation, Diablo 4 players get to Lorath better, learn about the game world and their place in it, and there is also a technical aspect: the developers needed Lorath, the player's companion, to enter the city before the player.
Of course, the choice is essentially meaningless, but there is a lot behind it, which still gives it some significance.
The ritual fragment in Diablo 4 begins at 44:30. Lorath moves ahead while the protagonist stays behind — a choice has to be made.
