Epic Games to lay off 16% of staff because it spends more than it earns

Initially, information about layoffs at Tim Sweeney's company was reported by Jason Schreier, but was later confirmed by Epic Games itself

Epic Games has decided to lay off around 830 employees, which represents 16% of its total workforce. The well-known Jason Schreier was the first to report on the layoffs at the company, calling the number of laid-off people colossal, but the information was later officially confirmed.

According to Epic Games head Tim Sweeney, this difficult decision to part ways with some employees was prompted by the fact that the company has recently been spending more than it earns.

Employees left without work will be provided with all due health benefits and six months of severance pay.

Additionally, Epic Games will sell the music service Bandcamp, acquired in March 2023. The buyer is Songtradr. The marketing company SuperAwesome, owned by Epic, will become independent.
