Publishers are not eager to create online libraries with games whose support has been discontinued

At the moment, gaming companies are not required to maintain perpetual access to their projects and have no obligations to users

Electronic Software Association attorney Steve Englund, in a conversation with Game Developer, dismissed the idea of creating an online library of games whose support was officially terminated due to various circumstances.

According to Englund, companies view such a library as a threat to their copyrights.

Currently, gaming companies have no legal obligations to players, and they can completely shut down access to their projects at any time.

In turn, proactive users may face various legal issues if they attempt to revive any game on their own.

Members of the Electronic Software Association include virtually all major gaming companies, including Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, EA, Take-Two, and many others.
