Hasbro Gaming has released a redesigned version of Pokémon Monopoly, which stands apart from previous releases with its closer connection to the Pokémon world. Instead of a simple reskin, the new game features unique mechanics, such as catching Pokémon and trainer battles, offering a fresh take on the classic board game.
The developers sought to go beyond a “Monopoly” game with a Pokémon logo slapped on, focusing instead on creating an experience that captures the spirit of adventure and competition characteristic of the original franchise.
Journalists who have already tried the new title note its dynamic pacing and engaging gameplay. Players can now choose their own path to victory — exploring biomes in search of Pokémon, engaging in battles with other trainers, or focusing on strategic resource management. However, the game still retains a significant element of luck, and unlucky dice rolls can drastically change the outcome of a match.
Experts emphasize that the Pokémon franchise has long stayed away from traditional board games, limiting itself to the TCG, and the release of Pokémon Monopoly could mark the beginning of a new era. This is one of the first tabletop adaptations to truly convey the Pokémon atmosphere rather than just being another piece of branded merchandise.
