Solo-developed indie game Balatro has reached a major milestone — over five million copies sold across all platforms. This news was shared by Playstack CEO Harvey Elliott at the Pocket Gamer Connects conference in London.
“Selling five million copies of any game is an incredible milestone worth celebrating,” noted Elliott. “To achieve this in under a year from launch, as a solo developer, is even more special.”
He also added: “I am incredibly proud of developer LocalThunk and the whole team at Playstack, who have rallied around the game to ensure its continued evolution.”
The game garnered multiple accolades at The Game Awards, including “Best Mobile Game”, “Best Debut Indie Game”, and “Best Independent Game”. Following the ceremony, Balatro’s popularity reached new heights: on December 28, it set a concurrent player record on Steam — 38,506 players.
Balatro was released on PC and consoles in February 2024, followed by its mobile launch in September, earning over a million dollars in its first week alone.
