During a Q&A session, Kitao confirmed that the cooperative action game set in the Elden Ring universe will do without this element. The reason is simple: Hidetaka Miyazaki is not working on the game.
The head of FromSoftware has repeatedly admitted that he loves adding poison swamps. In an interview with Eurogamer, he mentioned that even after the release of Elden Ring he realized just how much he enjoys creating them, which is why they appeared in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
Development of Nightreign is led by Junya Ishizaki, who worked as a level designer on Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring. He received Miyazaki’s approval to include bosses from Dark Souls, but the series creator is not involved in the project. According to Kitao, “there simply wasn’t anyone to insist on a poison swamp.”
The release of Elden Ring Nightreign is scheduled for May 30, 2025, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
