The star of "Doctor Who" and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has joined the cast of Chad Stahelski's new "Highlander".
The Hollywood Reporter reported in an exclusive article that Karen Gillan will play Heather, the mortal wife of Connor MacLeod (Henry Cavill) in the upcoming remake of "Highlander", the cult film from the 1980s.
The film will also star Russell Crowe as Ramirez, Connor's mentor, Dave Bautista as Kurgan, and Marisa Abela as Brenda. Chad Stahelski ("John Wick") is directing, and Michael Finch ("John Wick 4") wrote the script.
The original "Highlander" was released in 1986, spawning a series of sequels and television projects, and became a cult classic of the fantasy genre. The remake promises to preserve the mythology of the original source, offering a modern reinterpretation of the story of immortal warriors.
Filming is scheduled to begin in late September. The project does not yet have a confirmed release date. In an interview with Collider in May 2025, Chad Stahelski noted that the premiere could take place in 2027 or 2028, although Amazon MGM Studios initially expected to release the film in 2026.
