Features of the No Man's Sky game system have led to a small tragedy in the research community.
The discovery system in No Man's Sky, which allows players to literally leave their mark on the history of the universe, can sometimes malfunction. Because of this, one player recently "made a mess" and overwrote a discovery made long ago by another person.
A user with the nickname MUD031 said that he found a system discovered nine years ago, and accidentally ruined everything with his scanning:
«This was the oldest object I had ever discovered. Both planets were discovered by the same person who discovered the system […] I sent my ship to scan the system and it completely changed the type of the two already discovered planets — now it says that I supposedly discovered them. It's kind of sad».
