On August 28, the premiere of the film "Exit 8", based on the Japanese indie game The Exit 8, took place in Russian cinemas.
The film is based on the game of the same name by developer Kotake Create and tells the story of a person trapped in a closed underground passage with frightening anomalies.
The film was directed and written by Genki Kawamura, who previously produced Makoto Shinkai's animated films, including "Your Name", "Suzume Closing Doors" and "Weathering with You".
The main role was played by actor and musician Kazunari Ninomiya ("Letters from Iwo Jima", "Gantz"), his partner was Nana Komatsu ("Silence", "Wild Pear" and other Japanese dramas).
The film premiered in May at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, where it received an eight-minute standing ovation. The film's poster was awarded the Prix Luciole for outstanding visual design — this award was established in 2023 and has only been awarded twice.
The original game The Exit 8 is a short psychological horror with elements of a walking simulator, which was released in November 2023. The game quickly became a viral hit, garnering over 100 million views on YouTube and receiving 93% positive reviews on Steam.
