Hideo Kojima told reporters that he plays video games extremely rarely, and completes about one game per year. The reason, according to Kojima, is that games require a significant amount of time, and events happening outside the game world are much more important to him, which he uses as a source of inspiration for his projects.
Kojima noted that he prefers to study reality in order to integrate its elements into his games, making them unique.
I don't play games that much. I watch movies, read books, meet people, and go to museums, and I don't copy anything from games.
