A week ago, the media began actively reporting that a Windows 11 update was allegedly causing SSD failures. The press advised caution regarding these claims.

The media reported that the story of the "killed" drives might turn out to be a trivial storm in a teacup. Judging by what is happening now, that is the case. There has been no mass influx of complaints about faulty SSDs online, and the story itself looks like a possible fabrication.

Microsoft was the first to comment on the situation. The company stated that its telemetry and internal analysis did not reveal any issues with SSDs on Windows 11. According to representatives, the latest updates have not affected the failure rate of drives in any way.

Then Phison, one of the largest manufacturers of SSD controllers, spoke out. They noted that the list of allegedly affected models circulating online is fake. Moreover, Phison is preparing a lawsuit against those who impersonated its representatives.

The company also published the results of a week-long study: over 2200 test cycles showed no failures. No Phison partner producing SSDs reported any problems, which would have been noticeable through warranty claims.

It was previously claimed that the malfunctions in Windows 11 only occurred under certain conditions - for example, if the drive was more than 60% full.
