According to Gunn, the project faces many challenges, including script revisions and uncertainty with the creative concept. In an interview with People, he noted that the Waller show remains in the plans, but is progressing slower than others: "We're working on it, see what happens. Some things are further along than others, 'Waller' is one of the things that is a little further away," he said.
Gunn previously explained that the launch of the series was delayed due to the screenwriters' strike and the need to complete the second season of "Peacemaker." The latter was prioritized thanks to the finished script. In addition, according to Gunn and co-head of the studio Peter Safran, the team has not yet found a final format for the Waller project.
The series was announced in 2022 among the first initiatives of the new DC cinematic universe. Christal Henry ("Watchmen") was brought in to write the script, and Jeremy Carver ("Doom Patrol") later joined the work. The show is expected to be in a more serious tone compared to "Peacemaker" and will focus on the dramatic side of Waller's character.
The release date of the series has not yet been announced. DC Studios is currently focused on other projects, including the superhero detective "Lanterns," which is scheduled to premiere in 2026.
