Recently, IGN and Eurogamer decided to recall the Grand Theft Auto series. Journalists reviewed the protagonists and compiled a rating of characters.
The heroes of GTA 5 were able to take three positions in the top ten, and CJ from GTA San Andreas made it to the top 3:

- 12 - Claude Speed (GTA 2)
- 11 - Claude (GTA 3)
- 10 - Tommy Vercetti
- 9 - Toni Cipriani and Victor Vance
- 8 - Johnny Klebitz
- 7 - Michael De Santa
- 6 - Huang Lee
- 5 - Luis Fernando Lopez
- 4 - Trevor Philips
- 3 - Franklin Clinton
- 2 - Carl Johnson
- 1 - Niko Bellic
