The cult franchise «Tron» is preparing to return to theaters after a 15-year hiatus.
The film «Tron: Ares», a sequel to Disney's science fiction franchise, has topped Fandango's list of most anticipated fall 2025 premieres. The survey involved over 2,000 users who made advance ticket bookings.
The third film in the series will be released on October 10, almost 15 years after the release of «Tron: Legacy». The plot centers on the Ares program, which manages to break through from the virtual world into the real world. The main role is played by Jared Leto, and the cast also includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodi Turner-Smith, Jeff Bridges, and Gillian Anderson. The director is Joachim Rønning.
According to analysts, the leadership in the ranking is due to both the sustained popularity of the brand and the large-scale marketing campaign by Disney, as well as the lack of a large number of blockbusters in the fall release window. The top nine most anticipated films include:

Initially, there were ten films in the ranking, with «Mortal Kombat 2» in second place. However, shortly after the publication of Fandango's press release, Warner Bros. postponed the premiere from October 2025 to May 2026.
Fandango's ratings are traditionally considered an industry benchmark: the service analyzes pre-sales of tickets, collaborates with the largest cinema chains in the USA, and uses user activity data through its owned resources Rotten Tomatoes and Vudu.
