TSMC, the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer, plans to raise prices for advanced chips. According to DigiTimes, the increase will be between 5% and 10% and will affect the 5nm, 4nm, 3nm, and 2nm processes.
The company faces high costs associated with moving some production to the United States, "heavy tariffs," and supply chain pressures. The strengthening of the Taiwanese dollar has also required price adjustments to maintain margins.
TSMC's main clients, including Apple and NVIDIA, will face increased order costs. This may affect the prices of end products, from new iPhones and AI chips to video cards. At the same time, TSMC plans to reduce the cost of older technological processes to maintain balance in the offering.
TSMC controls more than 50% of the contract chip manufacturing market and has almost no competitors in advanced lithography processes. The company is investing up to $300 billion in the development of factories in the United States, including the expansion of a plant in Arizona to produce 2nm chips in the coming years. Experts note that such large-scale spending and market leadership inevitably led to price increases, and customers are likely to accept the new rates, as there are almost no alternatives.
