In 2025, the Blood Bowl board game will receive a third edition, a new starter box with Bretonnian and Tomb Kings teams, status markers, rule changes, and new fields, dice, and cards.
Games Workshop has announced the third edition of the Blood Bowl board game, designed for fans of the Warhammer Fantasy setting (aka Warhammer: The Old World) and American football.
Two new teams are expected to appear. The Brionian Barons from Bretonnia – two Grail Knights, two Throwing Knights, two Catching Knights, and squires, will fight the Nehekharan Nightmares – four Tomb Guardians, two blitzers, two throwers, and sturdy Skeleton Linemen.
The new starter box will contain the two teams mentioned above, a double-sided field and dugouts, two sets of dice, reference sheets, a hardcover rulebook, and a plastic sprue with the usual range ruler and templates.
The developers have made changes to the rules. There is no more confusion between players (miniatures) and the coach (gamer), as well as between declaring and performing actions. A new Keyword system has appeared. The "Secure the Ball" action is introduced, working much like a blitz or pass.
Status markers have been added, so gameplay should become smoother. The third edition will be released later in 2025, along with two Spike! magazines for the new teams, as well as new fields, dice, and cards.
