Microsoft has denied allegations that the Windows 11 update with index KB5063878 is causing solid-state drive failures. According to the company, an internal investigation revealed no connection between the patch and disk malfunctions.

The first user reports appeared in August. They described cases where gaming SSDs suddenly "disappeared" from the system during active data writing, leading to data loss and requiring a PC reboot to re-detect the drive. Initially, suspicions were linked to security update KB5063878, but Microsoft stated that it was unable to reproduce such failures on test systems.

In addition, the company involved hardware manufacturers in the verification, including Phison, whose controllers were most often mentioned in the complaints. Representatives from Phison also did not confirm the presence of an error related to the Windows 11 update.

The cause of the failures remains unknown, which is causing concern among Windows 11 PC owners, especially those who use SSDs for installing and running games. Experts advise carefully monitoring the condition of drives during large volumes of writing and regularly backing up data to external media or the cloud.

Microsoft stated that it will continue to study the problem together with hardware manufacturers to determine its source.
