The story of Volition studio ended after the release of the critically panned reboot.
Recently, the author of the YouTube channel mrsaintsgodzilla21 presented material dedicated to the Saints Row franchise. He claims that the 2022 reboot was a completely different game.
Allegedly, the project was originally called "Saints Row Cinco" and was conceived as a continuation of Saints Row The Third. Development progressed to the point where the actor who voiced Pierce recorded new lines, but in the end the materials were not useful, as the character never returned:
The changes were made after Deep Silver was acquired by THQ Nordic, which, according to mrsaintsgodzilla21, led to the new Volition management rejecting the idea of a direct sequel and ordering the team to start over.
Volition then presented THQ Nordic with a full Saints Row reboot with the original cast of actors, but this idea was also rejected.
The result was Saints Row (2022) with a set of new characters. The game was criticized long before its release, and after the game's release, the decision was made to close Volition studio.
