The Outer Worlds 2 is a sequel to the original from Obsidian Entertainment, and Microsoft is now the publisher. The authors assure that the game will retain the atmosphere and style of the first part, despite belonging to a large corporation.
The sequel, scheduled for release on October 29, 2025, will continue the story that began in 2019. At that time, the action was related to the future controlled by mega-corporations, and the developers were not afraid of criticism against them. The first part was released under the Primera Division brand (today Fiction Inc.), which, being part of Take-Two Interactive, supported bold projects. Now Obsidian is part of Xbox Game Studios, which has caused some players to worry about restrictions.
In an interview, game director Brandon Adler admitted that the studio is aware of the fact that it belongs to Microsoft:
"It would be absurd to pretend that we don't notice this. We even find it funny and sometimes reflect it in the trailers. We joke, wink at the players, but keep the main message. Regardless of who is funding, we try to convey the same idea."
Creative director Leonard Boyarsky emphasized that Microsoft did not interfere in the process:
"We work with people who love the game. We had no orders or restrictions."
