AMD is preparing an unusual naming system for the new generation of RDNA 5 GPUs, using codenames of characters from the "Transformers" series.
Sources cite Alpha Trion, Ultra Magnus, and Orion Pax as internal designations that cover both discrete Radeon GPUs and custom SoCs for partner consoles.
It is reported that Alpha Trion will become the "umbrella" name for the desktop gaming line, while Ultra Magnus and Orion Pax will be associated with the future Xbox and next-generation PlayStation console, respectively. This is a notable departure from AMD's usual traditions, where consumer gaming chips more often received names related to water themes, and accelerators for data centers — with stellar ones.
RDNA 5 / UDNA is expected to appear in 2026, and additional information may be revealed at major industry exhibitions such as CES or Computex.
