IO Interactive clarified that their upcoming game 007 First Light will not be the next Hitman with a different protagonist. However, the studio used its experience with the Hitman series to create a unique experience suitable for James Bond.
Senior Licensing Producer Teuns Smith mentioned in an interview the team that worked on the project and that the studio has expanded since the announcement. According to him, this was an important stage of growth for IO Interactive.
"Our team is talented, and has expanded since the announcement. We have brought in new specialists who have strengthened the studio and brought a fresh perspective, new skills. This is a really big growth for us as a studio."
New developers helped make 007 First Light different from Hitman, adding fresh ideas and expertise.
"The game was created first for the experience, and not as a repeat of Hitman. Bond needs a different approach."
Art Director Rasmus Poulsen added that developing new mechanics, such as player-controlled vehicles, was a serious challenge. The team brought in simulation and balance specialists to ensure that the cars were both realistic and accessible to a wide audience.
007 First Light will feature stealth gameplay, high-speed chases, plane hijackings, close combat, bluffing, and various Bond gadgets. The game will be released on March 27, 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
