Before the rights to the film adaptation went to Paramount, Steven Spielberg, who is a fan of the series, also fought for the franchise.

After the announcement of a large-scale film project based on Call of Duty in partnership with Paramount Pictures and Activision, it became known that Steven Spielberg was also interested in the film adaptation.

His son Max said in an interview with MinnMax back in 2024 that the director had long been fond of PC games and was a fan of Call of Duty. Now Puck News reports that Spielberg personally wanted to direct the film, and his team even presented Activision with their own vision of the project. However, the publisher did not approve the idea: Spielberg insisted on full creative control, and as a result, the rights went to Paramount.

Studio head David Ellison called the partnership a "dream come true" and promised that the film adaptation would be made at the level of "Top Gun: Maverick" to appeal to both fans of the franchise and attract a new audience.

Paramount and Activision have not yet disclosed details of the plot, cast, and release date.
