In an interview, they said that while they hear the feedback from players, the team does not currently have the resources to work on a remaster in parallel with the new project.

Kadowaki noted:

"We know many people want an Onimusha 3 remaster. But right now we have about 170 people, and they are all completely focused on Way of the Sword. Transferring anyone to another remaster or side project would distract from the main work, and we don't want to degrade Way of the Sword in any way."

The developers added that Capcom has long been interested in returning to the series, but the right conditions only appeared in 2020, when there were resources and technology for a new game, which led to the creation of Way of the Sword.

The original Onimusha 3: Demon Siege was released in 2004 on PlayStation 2. It continued the story of Samanosuke Akechi and joint adventures with Jacques Blanc, played by Jean Reno. The game received high marks for its 3D graphics, cinematic cutscenes by Donnie Yen, and expanded combat system, although its short length was criticized. By 2008, more than 1.5 million copies had been sold.
