Onimusha 3 Remaster Still in Question. Capcom Responds to Fan Requests

Capcom noted the fans' interest in the Onimusha 3 remaster, but series developers Akihito Kadowaki and Satoru Nihei explained that the studio's attention is now fully focused on the new game Onimusha Way of the Sword.

In an interview, they said that while they hear the players' feedback, the team does not yet have the resources to work on the remaster in parallel with the new project.

Kadowaki noted:

"We know many people want an Onimusha 3 remaster. But right now we have about 170 people, and they are all completely focused on Way of the Sword. Transferring anyone to another remaster or side project would distract from the main work, and we don't want to worsen Way of the Sword in any way."

The developers added that Capcom has long been interested in returning to the series, but suitable conditions appeared only in 2020, when there were resources and technologies for a new game, which led to the creation of Way of the Sword.

The original Onimusha 3: Demon Siege was released in 2004 on PlayStation 2. It continued the story of Samanosuke Akechi and joint adventures with Jacques Blanc, played by Jean Reno. The game received high marks for 3D graphics, cinematic cutscenes by Donnie Yen, and an expanded combat system, although the short duration was criticized. By 2008, more than 1.5 million copies had been sold.
