Orlando Bloom doesn't yet know if his character will appear in the new film of The Lord of the Rings franchise.
Actor Orlando Bloom, who played the elf Legolas in the film trilogies "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit," recently shared his thoughts on his possible return in the upcoming film "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum," directed by Andy Serkis.
According to Bloom, he has "not heard a word" about his participation in the project and only knows that the film will focus on the character of Gollum, played by Serkis. At the same time, the actor added that he would not want to see anyone else in the role of Legolas.
"Listen, I don't want to see anyone else play Legolas, you know what I mean? What are they going to do? Are they going to get someone else to play Legolas? With artificial intelligence, they can do anything now!"
The plot of the film will unfold between the events of "The Hobbit" and "The Fellowship of the Ring," during the period when Gandalf and Aragorn were tracking Gollum to prevent the Ring from returning to Sauron. It is at this time that the elven ranger Legolas could organically fit into the story — if the creators really decide to bring him back.
Earlier, Ian McKellen indirectly confirmed his return to the role of Gandalf and also hinted at the appearance of Elijah Wood as Frodo. Bloom himself stated back in June that he would gladly return to the role if he received an offer, although he noted that this would require digital de-aging.
"The Hunt for Gollum" will be the first film in a new wave of Tolkien adaptations. The release is scheduled for December 17, 2027.
