"Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle" could become the most successful anime release in the history of the US box office. According to analysts, the film is capable of grossing from $45 to $60 million in its opening weekend and surpassing "Pokémon 2000", which has held the record with $31 million since 1999.
Sony itself gives a more conservative forecast - about $35 million in the opening weekend. In the US, the film will be released in 3,300 theaters, including IMAX and PLF formats. In the first four days of pre-sales, $10 million worth of tickets were sold, and according to the latest data, the amount has already exceeded $15 million.
"Infinity Castle" opens the final trilogy of "Demon Slayer". According to the plot, Tanjirō, Nezuko, and the Hashira pillars find themselves trapped inside a demonic fortress and engage in battle with high-ranking demons under the command of Muzan Kibutsuji.
In the Japanese box office, the film has already grossed $213 million, and worldwide gross is approaching $273 million. Given the popularity of the franchise in the US, the film has every chance of becoming the highest-grossing anime in history. The main rival is the same franchise: "Mugen Train", which earned more than $507 million worldwide and $49.5 million in the US.
