NBCUniversal has registered domains with the name Super Mario Galaxy Movie — the find surfaced just before the large-scale Nintendo Direct presentation, which starts today, September 12, at 16:00 Moscow time and will last one hour.
The domain automatically redirects users to the official Universal website, which excludes the possibility of accidental registration by a third party.
The first rumors about Super Mario Galaxy Movie appeared back in May — then another title was discovered in the NBCUniversal database: Super Mario World. The page was quickly updated, removing the mention of the film, but a trace remained online.
The intrigue is fueled by recent leaks. According to insiders, a new Mario game may be presented during the Direct. Journalist VGC Andy Robinson was the first to report this, and SwitchForce host added: "They will buy new consoles for the sake of the mustache." Everything indicates that the Super Mario series will have several notable announcements at once — not only gaming ones.
The date is also of particular interest: tomorrow, September 13, the Super Mario series celebrates its 40th anniversary. And if Nintendo decides to time the announcements of a new film and games to coincide with the anniversary, it is unlikely to be a surprise.
