The head of Gearbox continues to actively respond to criticism on social media. Players are unhappy with the extremely poor performance of Borderlands 4, and Randy Pitchford is publishing dozens of messages defending the project.
One of his most striking statements: "Borderlands 4 is a premium game for premium gamers." According to Pitchford, users with "weak and outdated PCs" should accept that the new installment requires expensive hardware. But the editors of Hardware Unboxed have found that even top-end systems with RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are experiencing serious performance issues.
The developer added that those who do not fall into the category of "premium gamers" should take advantage of the refund option on Steam.
Theoretically, the high requirements could be justified by a game that sets new standards for graphics. But the problem is that Borderlands 4 looks mediocre even on the maximum Badass settings. The geometry of the environment is noticeably simplified, and the surface lacks detail and tessellation effects.
On low-medium settings, the situation is even worse: the game sometimes looks weaker than Borderlands 3. Hardware Unboxed compared both parts and the result was devastating — the new part not only performs worse, but also visually inferior to its predecessor.
