Dave Bautista will play the antagonist Kurgan in the upcoming "Highlander" reboot. Henry Cavill will play the main character, Connor MacLeod. In an interview with Collider, the actor spoke about his love for the franchise, how long he had been pursuing this role, and what viewers should expect from the new version under the direction of Chad Stahelski.

According to Bautista, he had been striving for this role for more than ten years — from posts on social networks to personal appeals to the director. When the project was in limbo and passed from Lionsgate to Amazon MGM, the actor asked colleagues to recommend him to Stahelski. In the end, he insisted on a personal meeting and stated directly: "Tell me what I need to do to get this role."

The actor noted that it was the script that convinced him of the project's potential. According to him, the new version does not abandon the legacy of the original, but offers a broader and more ambitious interpretation of the universe.

"It's much bigger than the original. The action is on par with "John Wick." I'm afraid I'm saying too much. I don't want to reveal details, but people will definitely be shocked. <...> Even if you've seen the original movie, you still won't understand what awaits you."

At the same time, the production of the film was suspended again. Filming, which was supposed to begin in the fall, has been postponed due to Henry Cavill's injury. The actor will need about six months to recover. The project does not yet have a confirmed release date. Chad Stahelski previously mentioned 2027 or 2028, but a release in 2027 is now unlikely.
