Sega has announced extensive post-release support for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. In an interview, authors Ken Kobayakawa and Ryuichi Taki confirmed that the game will receive a new character and map every month for a year—a total of 12 free updates.
The developers emphasized that the additions will not be limited to characters from the Sonic series. The list will include characters from other Sega games. Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga, and Joker have already been confirmed as part of the monthly updates, but they will not be available at launch. The team is also preparing online events and as-yet-unannounced content to give players an incentive to return for a long time.
The project is being created by Sonic Team with the participation of the developers of Initial D Arcade. The main feature is the CrossWorld system, which allows you to switch between tracks during the race.
Today, Sega released a free demo version, available on all key platforms. Unlike the early network test, it focuses on single-player mode.
The full release of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will take place on September 25, 2025, on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A version for Switch 2 will appear later.
