Experiments with CS2 monetization continue.
The creators of Counter-Strike 2 are back with a major Show Off update. Players are exploring the new Genesis skin collection, and discussing the specific "store" through which they are distributed.
A "Sealed Genesis Terminal" container has been added to the weekly loot: when opened, the player begins to "communicate" with a virtual seller.
Gabe Follower acquired a terminal and showed how this system works — a chat appears with a merchant who offers to buy a specific skin from the set (chosen randomly). If the offer is not satisfactory, the player can refresh it several times:
«I spent $50 demonstrating the "Genesis Uplink Terminal". Basically, it allows you to open a case five times. Each time, the arms dealer Booth offers you to buy an item. If you refuse, you get a second offer, and so on up to five times.»
There is an opinion that Valve wants to circumvent gambling laws in this way: gamers do not buy a loot box with random content, but are seemingly directly offered to purchase a weapon — users have the option to refuse the deal if they are not satisfied with the dropped model.
