Ubisoft has presented an unexpected gift to fans of the classic Assassin’s Creed games. On March 5, 2026, an official patch will be released for Assassin’s Creed Unity, adding support for 60 frames per second for current-generation consoles. Previously, the game only delivered a high frame rate on PC, as well as on Xbox consoles thanks to the system's FPS Boost feature. On PS5, the frame rate had remained rigidly locked at 30 FPS until now.
The announcement was made as part of the publication of an updated roadmap for the franchise. The new Head of Content for the series, Jean Guesdon, accompanied the release with a short address:
«We know that some of you have been waiting for this for a very long time. Get ready to relive the events in 18th century Paris and appreciate Arno's graceful parkour with incredible smoothness on consoles»
Assassin’s Creed Unity was released in 2014 and was initially remembered for its large-scale technical problems: bugs and catastrophic FPS drops. However, over the years, the developers have fixed most of the errors, and the community has revised its attitude towards the project.
Today, players call Unity almost the benchmark of the series for its most advanced parkour system, massive crowds of NPCs, and the dense atmosphere of the French Revolution. As users on Reddit note, the smooth animations and movement mechanics in Unity became the peak of the development of the original games' ideas, and the 60 FPS patch is the best reason to return to the game.
To attract a new audience, Ubisoft announced that from April 2 to 6, Xbox owners will be able to play Unity and a number of other games in the series for free as part of the Xbox Free Play Days promotion. There is also a Ubisoft sale on Steam, where games in the series are sold with discounts of up to 90%.
