Sony Santa Monica is quietly working on a new installment of God of War. Everything indicates that Kratos may go to another mythology.
Rumors say that the new game may transfer the hero to Egyptian mythology. Previously, the studio considered two directions — northern and Egyptian, but for the reboot they chose stories about Odin and Thor. Now, more and more reliable leaks are appearing, hinting at Egypt.
The main information comes from Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming, one of the most informed insiders in the industry.
In the latest podcast, Henderson stated that the new part is already in development, and Kratos will receive an "Egyptian sword". This not only confirms the return of the hero, but also strongly hints that the action will unfold in Ancient Egypt — a place that fans have been discussing for years.
Given that God of War Ragnarök was released in 2022, work on the sequel could have been going on for several years. The studio can use concept art prepared before the series reboot, which speeds up the process.
If the rumors are confirmed, players have a chance to see Kratos fighting gods like Anubis and Osiris.
The first official details may appear at the next State of Play or Showcase this month.
