Sega recently launched a bold, 90s-style advertisement hinting that Nintendo and Mario Kart are outdated compared to the dynamic Sonic. Now it's time to see what reviewers think.
The overall picture looks good, but it's far from a sensation—there's no talk of defeating Mario Kart World. Initial reviews of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds show an average score of 8.3/10 after 47 ratings on OpenCritic. On Metacritic, the PS5 version holds at 8.3/10.
GameSpot, in its review, criticized the physics of collisions with track barriers: cars lose too much speed. Reviewers noted the excessive number of attacking items and a weak multiplayer mode with only a few options available.
But there are also more enthusiastic opinions. For example, GamingTrend gave it a 9.5/10, noting the speed, sense of drive, well-thought-out scaling of difficulty, and high-quality level design.
Strengths include the sense of speed and arcade drive, the mechanics of transferring between worlds, the variety of tracks and visual effects.
Weaknesses include a bumpy start, poor balance of items and gadgets, and a relatively small number of heroes.
