Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has signed a law banning loot boxes in video games for those under 18. New legislation aimed at protecting young people on the internet will come into force in March 2026, Eurogamer reports.
According to the law, games containing loot boxes will be classified as "18+", and loot boxes will be prohibited in games with a rating below this age.
In 2023, the Netherlands proposed a complete ban on loot boxes, and in 2018, Belgium had already introduced a similar ban, which led to the cessation of FIFA Points sales in the country.
