There is a certain demand for expanded lobbies in the Helldivers 2 community. Some would like squads of 8, and sometimes even 16 players.
Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani responded to the question "How unrealistic do you think it is to get more people in a lobby; on a scale of 1 to 10?" posted in the Helldivers 2 Discord community.
The creator replied: "Dude, we're trying to improve performance, not kill it. I can give you a 16-player lobby and 16 FPS tomorrow. Do you want it?"
(Shams clarified that this statement was a joke).
Technical limitations currently do not allow the implementation of "mega-lobbies" without catastrophic consequences for performance. The game was created on Autodesk Stingray, an engine that has not been supported for several years — the studio itself handles the updates. Significant investments will be required even for lobbies of 8 players.
