The horror-survival game Cronos: The New Dawn from Bloober Team has received a native build for Steam Deck, resulting in a significant performance boost compared to the version running through Proton (Windows).
A video has appeared on the Deck Wizard YouTube channel demonstrating the noticeably more stable performance of the game — the native version looks better in almost every aspect.
Although even in this version the project doesn't maintain a stable 60 frames per second, the difference is obvious. Cronos: The New Dawn confidently runs above 30 fps even in complex scenes. In the same location, the Proton version barely reached 30 fps.
Despite the fact that a high frame rate is always a plus, for the horror-survival genre, smoothness in the region of 30 fps should be sufficient, because the foundation of the game is built on atmosphere, not dynamics.
