Kirsten Dunst has once again fueled interest in a possible sequel to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. In an interview for The Supes Show, the actress, who played Mary Jane Watson, admitted that she has an idea for a fourth film, if she and Tobey Maguire had to return to their roles.
According to her, the story could tell about Peter and Mary Jane, who have not only grown up, but also become parents. This version was suggested by her interlocutor, actor Channing Tatum, noting that the appearance of a child makes the plot more emotional and raises the stakes. Dunst supported the idea, calling it "cool" and adding that the return of the characters after years with new life experience would be a worthy development of their story.
The idea of a fourth film with Tobey Maguire is not new. After his appearance in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" in 2021, fans began to actively discuss the possibility of returning to the Raimi universe.
Additional interest is sparked by recent statements from screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, co-author of "The Batman" with Robert Pattinson. He hinted that he is "trying" to get the project off the ground, and previously noted that he sees "Spider-Man 4" as a film about a hero combining the role of husband and father — which is close to Kirsten Dunst's version.
It is not yet known whether Marvel or Sony Pictures will take on the fourth film with Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, but interest in a possible sequel has not faded for many years.
