Very soon, HBO will present another prequel to “Game of Thrones” in George Martin's universe. The series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” will be a stand-alone story that is noticeably different in spirit from the original show. This was revealed by showrunner Ira Parker in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will be a drama set ninety years before “Game of Thrones,” fifty years after the extinction of dragons. The series will tell the story of “tough, resilient medieval knights.”

The story will focus on the hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, who is hiding his belonging to the Targaryen house. The first season, designed for six episodes, will adapt the novella “The Hedge Knight” and tell about the heroes' journey to a tournament in Ashford.

Parker emphasizes that this time the show will not be about “lords and ladies, kings and queens” and their struggle for power. On the contrary, the new series will focus on the lives of the lower strata of Westeros society — armorers, artists, representatives of the oldest profession, and other ordinary people.

The desire to “ground” the narrative will manifest itself in everything — right down to the credits. Parker noted that the creators deliberately abandoned the complex animated intro in the spirit of “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon.” Instead, viewers will see a simple introduction that reflects the straightforward character of the main character.

George Martin, who is the executive producer of the project, has already watched the entire first season and was satisfied. If the series is successful, HBO plans to adapt other stories from the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” cycle.

The premiere of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will take place in January 2026 on HBO and Max. The main roles are played by Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell.
