According to Digital Foundry, the company is developing a high-performance portable PlayStation that will compete with modern portable PCs, including models based on Strix Halo chips, such as the GPD Win 5.
Journalists note that Sony engineers are striving to achieve a level of performance previously only available on full-fledged computers. This is thanks to the unique optimization of the console and the company's proprietary technologies.
PSSR technology and Sony's own solutions could provide the device with high image quality and smoothness, surpassing current PC standards.
There is a possibility that the new console will receive an RDNA 5 video chip, created using a 3nm process, which will reduce power consumption. At the same time, the performance level will remain lower than that of Strix Halo.
Analysts suggest that the power of the portable PlayStation may correspond to a 25–30-watt configuration of Strix Halo. At the same time, the exact characteristics of the CPU and GPU have not yet been disclosed. According to rumors, the device will receive four Zen 6C cores and two energy-efficient cores, while Strix Halo is equipped with eight Zen 5 cores, which gives an advantage in demanding games.
Digital Foundry experts believe that Sony should allow games from the PS5 to be launched directly to provide players with easy access to modern hits in a portable format.
Although there is no official data yet, everything indicates that the battle for the mobile gaming market is just beginning, and Sony is preparing a significant response to competitors.
