Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2 has caused a stir, not only among players, but also among the game director. The Square Enix team faced a serious challenge.
According to Naoki Hamaguchi, the key problem was the power consumption of the Switch 2, especially in portable mode. The main goal was to achieve a stable 30 frames per second without compromising on graphics quality — it was the optimization that took the most time for the team.
The developers emphasize that they strive to reach the widest possible audience, so the game is being released on the new Nintendo console. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be released on Switch 2 on January 22, 2026, and the visual implementation impressed Hamaguchi so much that he confessed to strong emotions: "When I saw the game live, holding the Switch 2 in my hands, I was really touched."
The game director also shattered the stereotype of the low quality of portable versions: "Contrary to appearances, the visual component of the game is rich and beautiful." Switch 2 will provide a complete experience comparable to other platforms.
Hamaguchi also announced a demo version of the game in 2025 so that fans can personally experience the magic of Final Fantasy 7 on the new console.
