A powerful wave of cyberattacks has hit Microsoft's key servers, leading to the infection of more than 400 organizations, according to Eye Security.
Over the weekend, the number of victims did not exceed hundreds, but the attacks intensified. Hackers are exploiting a vulnerability in SharePoint, spreading a dangerous ransomware virus. According to Microsoft, the operation is being carried out by a group called Storm-2603, which encrypts corporate data and demands a large ransom for its recovery.
The list of victims includes both large companies and government agencies. After the discovery of the hack, some servers had to be immediately isolated to stop the spread of the virus.
According to Vaishali Bernard from Eye Security, the real number of victims may be significantly higher, as many traces of the intrusion are difficult to track. Experts warn that without timely updates and protection, new companies and users are at risk.
Microsoft notes that these attacks differ from previous ones — the embedded virus not only steals information but is also capable of completely paralyzing the network.
