After the success of Hyper Light Drifter, many expected the sequel to the universe to be just as strong. But Heart Machine studio faced problems - Hyper Light Breaker received only 64% positive reviews on Steam.
The game recently came out of early access, but the developers have already announced the end of its support. The last update is dated September 23.
The bad news doesn't end there - some of the studio's employees have been laid off due to weak sales of the project.
Heart Machine said in a statement:
"We were forced to make the difficult decision to part ways with several talented team members. This is not the path we wanted, but in the current environment it turned out to be the only possible one. Our decision to end work on Hyper Light Breaker is due to factors beyond our control - changes in funding, corporate consolidation, and the unstable situation in which many small teams like ours find themselves."
The studio is now focused on the metroidvania Possessor(s), which is scheduled for release next month on PS5 and PC. The future of Heart Machine depends on the success of this game.
