Sony may release the PlayStation 6 in 2027 - this was reported by the well-known insider Kepler, associated with AMD. He published the information on the NeoGAF forum, specifying that this year is indicated in the company's plans, although postponements are possible due to "unforeseen circumstances."
If the data is confirmed, the new console will appear seven years after the release of the PlayStation 5, which corresponds to the usual life cycle of the platform - exactly the same amount of time passed between the release of the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5.
Interestingly, this rumor coincides with a recent speech by PlayStation's lead system architect Mark Cerny. In a conversation with Jack Huynh, a top manager at AMD, he spoke in detail about the joint Amethyst project, which develops three key technologies: Neural Arrays, Radiance Cores, and Universal Compression. All of them are designed for the next generation of game consoles.
Although these technologies currently exist only in simulations, Cerny noted that he is "excited about the prospect of their implementation in a future console in a few years," and two years is a perfectly suitable period to be considered "a few years."
If the information is confirmed, the gap between the release of the Pro version and the new generation will be shorter this time. PS5 Pro was released in 2024 - just three years before the expected release of PS6. For comparison, the PlayStation 4 Pro went on sale four years before the release of the PS5.
