The \"Game of Thrones\" franchise will soon return with a new prequel series.
While viewers await the third season of \"House of the Dragon,\" HBO is preparing to present another prequel based on the world of George Martin - the series \"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.\" Based on the novellas about Dunk and Egg, the project will be a more intimate and personal story set against the backdrop of the world of Westeros.
Although the series itself is still in preparation for release, the team found casting surprisingly quick. Writer and showrunner of the project, Ira Parker, said that casting the main roles was \"the easiest decision\" she has ever had to make.
According to Parker, the casting director received thousands of applications and sent selections of ten candidates. In the very first package was Dexter Sol Ansell, the actor for the role of Egg - and the showrunner immediately realized that he was the perfect choice.
\"I remember asking the casting director: 'Okay, so what do we do? Just sign him?' Of course, we continued auditions, watched hundreds of actors, but in the end, we still came back to Dexter.\"
The process with Peter Claffey, who played Dunk, was a little longer, but the result was just as obvious. The former professional rugby player with minimal acting experience auditioned several times, and, according to Parker, \"got better every time.\" The final viewing with Ansell confirmed that this pair created the necessary chemistry.
\"It was easy. This is the most carefree decision we have ever had to make, and, hopefully, ever will.\"
\"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\" will be released on HBO Max on January 18, 2026, and the third season of \"House of the Dragon\" should also be released in 2026.
