Genndy Tartakovsky didn't want to say goodbye to Spear too early.
Adult Swim has unveiled the first teaser for the third season of "Primal" - Genndy Tartakovsky's animated series, which has already become a cult classic.
The teaser premiered at New York Comic Con, where Tartakovsky himself explained his decision to bring the character back. According to the director, he didn't plan to resurrect Spear, but later regretted taking the character out of the story too early.
"I spent 20 episodes making the audience love these characters... and killed one of them. Maybe it was premature... and then the thought came, maybe there's a way around it? It's a fantastic idea, and it's completely juicy, and I really liked it."
This "workaround" is apparently based on the history of the series itself. The first season's "Plague of Madness" episode already featured zombie-like creatures, but now Tartakovsky promises "something new that no one expects" and "something that will turn everything upside down."
The creator also said that the third season will change the tone and energy. While the action and inner beauty of the series will remain, the new arc explores "finding humanity in death."
The premiere of the third season of "Primal" will take place in January 2026 on Adult Swim and HBO Max.
