CitizenCon 2025 has concluded, but discussions around it continue. At the event, Cloud Imperium Games presented the alpha 4.4 update for Star Citizen, which will add the new Nyx star system.
This is a lifeless sector on the edge of explored space. The first shots from the planets of Nyx have already been published, and the version itself will be released next month.
During the presentation, Chris Roberts stated that the team had managed to eliminate a number of technical problems and improve server stability.
But fans paid attention to something else — not a word was said about Squadron 42. Previously, the developers hinted at a release in 2026, but now this looks unlikely. Everything indicates that the project with the participation of Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill and Gillian Anderson may appear only in 2027.
The situation was also fueled by statements by former CIG employee Robert Peterson, who left the studio in 2022. According to him, the company has "burned millions of dollars on meaningless things" over the years. He added that the gameplay of Squadron 42 boils down to "a walking simulator with endless dialogues and lengthy cutscenes," calling the project "an interactive movie doomed to failure."
