Marc-Alexis Côté, head of the Assassin's Creed franchise, has left Ubisoft after more than 20 years with the company. This comes just two weeks after Ubisoft's largest brand, Assassin's Creed, came under the management of Vantage Studios - a new company created by Ubisoft and Tencent. Vantage Studios will also be responsible for future Far Cry and Rainbow Six projects.
Ubisoft employees received an internal letter stating the need for "consistency" in Vantage Studios' management with the company's core goals. According to IGN, Côté was offered a role in the leadership of Vantage Studios, but he declined. Vantage Studios co-head Christophe Derenne expressed disappointment with Côté's decision, noting that he had "his own expectations and priorities" regarding the creation and future of Vantage Studios.
We are sad to see him go, but we are confident that our talented teams will continue to build on the foundation he laid. We are deeply grateful to Marc-Alexis for his contributions, especially in shaping the Assassin's Creed brand. His leadership, creativity, and dedication have left an indelible mark on our teams and among players.
