The case is being heard by the same judge who was involved in the US Federal Trade Commission's case against Microsoft and Activision Blizzard.

According to a Games Fray report and court documents, Sony has filed a motion for a preliminary injunction to prevent Tencent from using elements copied from Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, including the game Light of Motiram.

In its appeal to Federal Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley—the same one who heard the US Federal Trade Commission's case against Microsoft and Activision Blizzard—Sony is demanding that Tencent be stopped from "reproducing, creating derivative works, displaying, performing, and distributing any works copied or derived from Horizon Works, including Light of Motiram". The ban also applies to the use of the ALOY trademark or any similar designations until a final decision is made in the case.

As described in the documents, the character Aloy is "a young and fierce warrior-huntress, characterized by fiery red hair, high cheekbones, and clothing that combines tribal and industrial metal elements". The motion covers visual, audio, and narrative elements of the Horizon series, such as the design of the mechanosaurs, tribal communities, post-apocalyptic landscapes, and even the melodies of the soundtrack, which Sony claims are too close to the compositions of Joris de Man, including "City on the Mesa" and the main theme of Horizon Zero Dawn.
