PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash stated in official documents filed by Sony in the lawsuit against Tencent that the script for the film is already complete, and the team is currently looking for a director. Filming is scheduled to begin in 2026, with a release in 2027.
"We are developing a Horizon film in collaboration with Columbia Pictures. We already have a working script, and we are actively looking for a director. The goal is to start filming in 2026 and release the picture in 2027," said Qizilbash. He noted that the project will be a continuation of the studios' collaboration, which previously produced Uncharted (2022) and Gran Turismo (2023).
Qizilbash emphasized that the main character of the series, Aloy, will remain the central image of the future film and an important part of the PlayStation brand.
In April, Qizilbash said that the Horizon adaptation would be a series, as the team wanted to "realize the idea correctly." Now, Sony seems to have decided to return to the film format.
